The Client

Our client operates a large warehouse facility in Peterborough, forming part of a wider logistics and distribution network. Sites of this scale require strict safety controls, particularly when it comes to roof access, inspections, and ongoing maintenance activities.

The building had previously been taken out of operation, but plans were in place for it to be re-opened as part of a wider contractor-led refurbishment and mobilisation programme. As part of this process, it was essential that all existing fall protection systems were reviewed, certified, and fully compliant before the site could return to operational use.

The Brief

Harcon Services carried out a routine PPM inspection of the roof safety systems at the warehouse. During this inspection, all existing Latchway horizontal lifeline systems were condemned. The inspection identified extensive corrosion and a number of deployed posts, rendering the systems unsafe and non-compliant for continued use.

The client required a comprehensive solution that would:

  • Safely decommission and remove the failed lifeline systems.
  • Replace them with a modern fall protection system providing full roof coverage.
  • Deliver long-term compliance with current industry standards.
  • Offer durability and low maintenance to reduce future lifecycle costs.

Although the building was subsequently closed, Harcon maintained regular contact with site stakeholders. During this period, we were advised that the warehouse was due to be re-opened and that our quotations would be passed to the contractors being considered for the refurbishment works.

The Solution

Harcon initially priced for the decommissioning of the condemned Latchway systems and the installation of new Kee Line horizontal lifeline systems. Kee Line was selected as the most appropriate replacement due to its proven durability, flexibility, and ability to provide continuous attachment across large roof areas.

When the refurbishment programme moved forward, Harcon was approached by the contractor appointed to manage the works. At this stage, the project required swift mobilisation and close coordination, as the programme was being delivered to a strict schedule set by the end client.

Harcon re-priced the works in line with the updated scope and submitted all relevant Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs) and documentation required for contractor approval. Throughout this process, our team liaised closely with the contractor to ensure that the proposed programme aligned with the wider site reopening timeline.

Once the purchase order was received, Harcon moved quickly to mobilise. Our installation team was on site within three weeks, ensuring minimal delay and allowing works to be completed well within the allocated timeframe.

The Kee Line system was designed to deliver full roof coverage, allowing users to remain continuously attached while moving efficiently across the roof. All works were carried out in line with current work-at-height regulations and manufacturer guidance, ensuring full compliance from day one.
