The Solution
Harcon’s Technical Sales team worked closely with the client through multiple discussions to understand the roof layout, maintenance requirements, and the constraints of the original specification. Several walkway options were reviewed, but performance and environmental suitability became the deciding factors.
Recommended System
Harcon proposed a Kee Walk system with nylon treads, combined with an aluminium handrail, and supported by additional protective finishing across other components.
This solution gave the client the best mix of safety and durability:
- Nylon treads provide excellent grip and slip resistance, particularly valuable for roof environments exposed to rain, frost, or surface contaminants.
- The aluminium handrail aligned with the client’s preference for aluminium structural elements.
- Kee Walk’s modular design allows rapid installation and easy adjustment to suit the roof’s geometry.
Coastal Durability Upgrade
Because the facility is located in a coastal region, Harcon recommended that all galvanised components should be powder-coated to exceed micron thickness requirements. This enhanced coating provides a tougher barrier against corrosion, protecting the system from salt air and moisture that can cause accelerated wear.
The upgrade was presented as a long-term performance improvement that would reduce maintenance risk and preserve system integrity over its lifespan.
Client Demonstration and Approval
Although other walkway systems were considered, the client wanted full confidence in how Kee Walk would perform. During a visit to Harcon’s offices, they were able to view and test the Kee Walk system in person. Experiencing the stability, grip, and build quality first-hand helped confirm that this was the most effective solution for the project.
Following the demonstration, the client approved Harcon’s proposal and the project moved into installation planning.
